When supporters enter one of your giveaways, you can invite them to add an optional donation to one of your donation campaigns before they finish checking out. These donations will be charged separately and do not affect giveaway entries. Each donation is recorded on the donation campaign you choose.
This works on every giveaway type: raffles, fixed-price tickets, sliding fee entries, and free entries.
How to enable optional donations at giveaway checkout
1. From the dashboard head to Giveaways, then click on Manage.
2. Click on Item & Settings.
3. Scroll down to the Optional donations section. First, choose your target fund that should receive the donations. This can be any standard donation campaign or donation form that has started and hasn't ended or been archived. If you don't have a fund to choose from yet, head to the Donation form or Standard donations section of your dashboard to create a campaign now.
4. Enter a checkout section title (required, up to 100 characters). This is the heading donors see on the donation card at checkout.
5. Optionally, add a description (up to 200 characters). A sentence about what the gift supports usually works well here.
6. Set up to four preset amounts in whole dollars. If you leave these blank, donors will see $5, $10, $25, and $50.
7. Click Save.
To disable the optional donations for your giveaway change the Target fund to "None (disabled)" and click Save.
Please note: If the target campaign ends or is archived, the donation option stops appearing at checkout, but supporters can still enter the giveaway as usual. The dashboard will show a warning that the campaign is no longer a valid target fund.
What donors see
At checkout, once donors have selected their giveaway entry, they can see the donation option at the top of the page. From there they can check a box to add a donation, choose one of your preset amounts or enter their own:
The entry and the donation are charged as two separate payments, and both appear on the donor's card statement under your organization's usual descriptor. Here's an example of the receipt they receive:
How to view the donations
Each optional donation is recorded as a regular donation on the target campaign. Go to Donation forms or Standard donations, whichever your target fund is, and click Manage on it. This will automatically bring you to the overview page of the campaign which shows a report of all donations received through this campaign, including those captured through your giveaway.
