Tags let you label donor records with custom tags - like Event Sponsor, Board Member, Alumni, or VIP - so you can quickly spot who's who when you're on a donor's profile and filter your donor list by tag. This article covers how to create tags, edit or delete them, apply them to individual donor records, and filter your donor list by tag.
How to create a tag
1. From the dashboard click Donor management on the bottom left of the screen.
2. Then, click Tags in the left sidebar. Once on the tag page, click New tag in the top right corner.
3. Enter the tag name in the pop-up and click Create.
4. You can add as many tags as needed and will find them all listed in your Tags report.
How to edit or delete a tag
1. Head to Donor management and click Tags in the left sidebar.
2. On the Tags page, click the three dots in the Actions column next to the tag you'd like to edit or delete, then click Edit tag to rename it or Delete tag to remove it.
How to add a tag to a donor
1. Head to Donor management and click the donor's name you want to add a tag to in your All people report. You can search the report using the magnifying glass, or sort by name or email by clicking the column header.
2. Once on the donor's page click Tags on the left side.
3. Open the dropdown menu under the Add a tag section and click the tag you'd like to add.
4. Once selected, click Associate tag with person.
5. Done! The donor's tag page now shows your tag in the Associated tags report, including the tag name, the date it was added, and who added it.
If you need to remove a tag from a donor, simply click the three dots in the Action column, then Remove tag.
6. Your Tag page is updated automatically to reflect how many times a tag has been used.
How to filter your donor list by tag
Once you've added tags to your donors, you can segment your donor list to see only the donors with (or without) a specific tag - for example, all of your Board Members or Event Sponsors.
1. From your dashboard, click Donor management in the left sidebar.
2. On the People page, stay on the Contacts tab. Click the three dots in the top right corner, then click Segment results.
3. In the Segmentation section, open the Nothing selected dropdown and choose Tags.
4. In the next dropdown, choose include to show donors who have the tag, or do not include to show donors who don't.
5. In the last dropdown, select the tag you'd like to filter by.
6. Click Apply.
Done! Your All people report now shows only the donors who match your segment. To download this list, click the download icon in the top right corner of the All people report.
Want to narrow your list further? Click + Add condition to add another filter, such as payment date or giving amount. To learn more, see How to segment your donor list in donor management.
