Whether you're encouraging recurring giving or offering one-time support, BetterWorld makes it easy to customize donation frequency to fit your campaign. Set your default, turn options on or off, and give donors the flexibility they appreciate.
What donation frequencies can I offer?
You can enable any combination of the following donation periods:
One-time
Weekly
Monthly
Annually
You can also choose which of these will be the default option shown at checkout.
Please note: All donation periods you enable will be visible to donors. The default will be pre-selected, but donors can choose another option if more than one is available.
How to customize donation frequency
Go to your campaign dashboard.
Click on the “Settings” tab.
Scroll down to the “Donation periods” section.
Under Default donation period, select which frequency should be automatically selected at checkout.
For each frequency option (one-time, weekly, monthly, annual), use the dropdown menus to select Yes or No depending on what you want to offer.
Click the blue “Save” button to apply your changes.
That’s it! Your donors will now see your updated donation frequency options when giving to your campaign.
Need help choosing the right setup?
Not sure which donation frequencies to enable? Here are some best practices to help you decide based on your campaign type and fundraising goals.
Campaigns that benefit from recurring giving
Recurring giving (weekly, monthly, or annual) is one of the most powerful ways to grow long-term support. It works especially well for:
Donation forms on your website
Impact campaigns that highlight tangible outcomes (e.g. “$20/month feeds a dog for a week”)
Annual memberships
Monthly giving clubs or sponsorship programs
Offering monthly giving in particular helps create predictability in your budget and deepens donor engagement. Many organizations choose it as their default donation period to encourage sustained support.
Pro tip: Make monthly giving feel personal and mission-driven. Add a message that explains what a monthly gift helps achieve.
Campaigns best suited for one-time giving
There are also moments where a one-time gift makes more sense. You may want to make this the default for:
Time-bound campaigns
Urgent fundraising appeals (e.g. vet bills, emergency shelter upgrades)
Matching gift challenges
If you're running a one-time campaign, you can still leave other donation periods enabled—just set one-time as the default. That way, you give donors options without distracting from your main goal.
