How to set up PayPal
You can enable PayPal and Venmo as giving options on your BetterWorld Donation Forms and Standard Donation Campaigns by connecting your PayPal Business account. Here's how:
From your dashboard, click on the dropdown menu in the top right corner of your screen, then select Payments & Payouts.
Click Payment methods.
Select Payment methods on the left-hand side
Select PayPal and click Set up PayPal.
Click Connect your account.
Click Next to get started with the conenction
Choose one of the following options:
Link an existing PayPal account.
Create a new PayPal account directly through the dashboard.
Click Next after selecting your preferred option.
A pop-up window will appear, enter the required information.
Click Connect to finish setup.
Once you finish PayPal's onboarding, you'll be returned to BetterWorld automatically. Your PayPal account record is created and the correct processing rates are applied.
How to view your PayPal account
You can view and manage your connected PayPal account anytime in the Payment methods section under Payments & Payouts.
Important information
For your PayPal account to fully work with BetterWorld, the following four capabilities must be active:
Capability | What it does |
Receive Money | Accept donations using PayPal and Venmo. |
Withdraw Money | Transfer received donations to your bank account. |
Custom Card Processing | Accept credit and debit card donations directly on the page. |
Wallet Advanced Vaulting | Securely save donor payment details so they can give again with one click (also required for recurring donations). |
Please note: If any capability stays in a non-active state, sign in to your PayPal Business account directly to check for outstanding requests.
Please note: Transaction rates are 2.9% + $0.30 for verified nonprofits and 3.9% + $0.50 for all other organizations. Learn more about verifying your organization here.
Verifying your nonprofit status after PayPal has already been connected will not automatically update your existing PayPal rate. To have the lower rate applied to your current connection, you need to disconnect and reconnect your PayPal business account on the onboarding flow.
Please note: PayPal donations go directly to your organization’s PayPal account. These funds do not collect in BetterWorld and are not paid out through the BetterWorld dashboard like all other payments.
