Use this article to understand the fees on payments collected in the BetterWorld Events app and to choose whether your donors cover those fees with the fee offset settings.
What fees apply to payments in the Events app
Ticket sales and payments collected in the BetterWorld Events app have a 2.2% platform fee on the Free and Flex plans. This is in addition to the standard processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 for card payments, or 1.5% + $0.30 for bank (ACH) payments.
Online, donors on the Free plan are asked for an optional Help Cover Fundraising Costs (HCFC) contribution at checkout. That ask can't be collected reliably at an in-person event, so the Events app uses a small platform fee instead. This also gives your donors a faster, simpler checkout. Your BetterWorld dashboard and online campaigns stay free.
Cash payments collected in the Events app don't include any fees.
How to change your fee offset settings in the Events app
To change who covers the fees on payments in the Events app, follow these steps:
Open the BetterWorld Events app, tap your organization logo, then go to Team settings.
Under Fee offset settings, select the option you'd like to use. This will save automatically.
Please Note: The fee offset setting is a team setting, so it applies to all of your events and campaigns.
What each fee offset option does
The fee offset settings in the Events app include the following options:
I don't want donors to cover the fees (hidden toggle): Your organization covers all fees, and the "Donor covers transaction fees" toggle is hidden at checkout.
When opted in, donor covers card/ACH processing costs only: When the toggle is on, the donor covers the card or ACH processing fee. Your organization covers the platform fee.
When opted in, donor covers card/ACH processing costs and platform fee: When the toggle is on, the donor covers both the processing fee and the platform fee.
Require donors to cover all fees: The donor always covers all fees, and the toggle is locked on at checkout.
