Charging Instant Items for Online Auctions
Instant Items are charged like any other Auction item on BetterWorld. However, at this time, offline payments for Instant Items cannot be accepted. The only way to pay for them is with a card because we need to make sure the reserve price for the item can be paid to the provider.
Charging Instant Items for Live Auctions
You can add Instant Items to your Live Auction, but payment for these items must be made online to ensure the backend process is completed. If you are using BetterWorld’s Live Auction tool as intended—entering bids and sending bidder invoices for online payment—then you're all set!
However, if you plan to accept offline payments from winning bidders of Instant Items, you will need to submit the payment online as well. Here’s how it works:
1. First, you'll need to create your Live Auction and add the Instant Items.
2. Create another Auction and choose online bidding when prompted. You only need to add the Instant Items to this Auction, and you can keep it set to private so none of your bidders see it. This Auction will only be used for your organization to pay for the Instant Items that have been won in your Live Auction and paid for by the winner offline.
3. Host your Live Auction! Once the Auction ends, collect payment offline however you like.
Please Note: these steps are only for organizations that choose to collect payment offline. BetterWorlds Live Auction tool allows you to enter the winning bidders/bids, including the Instant Item winners, and have them pay online. Here is a quick article that shows you how to charge your winners online.
4. Once your Instant Item winners have paid you will head to the online bidding Auction you set up and place a bid for the reserve price using a card that belongs to you or your organization. The reserve price is set as the starting bid by default. Close the Online Auction and charge your card. Once you pay for the item at the reserve price this will automatically notify our team!
5. A member of our team will reach out to you via email with fulfillment instructions, and you can just let us know the name and email of the actual winner. We will do the rest and connect them with their item!
Credit Card Fees on Instant Items
The Stripe fees are 2.9% and 30 cents a transactions. The fees are the same as non- Instant Items and bidders can still opt-in to cover the Stripe fees for your organization! The Stripe fee will be calculated based on the full winning bid.
